Did this happen to you?

Wednesday night and Thursday morning, a percentage of Facebook inboxes were flooded with messages from other users. The mixup is linked to a "code glitch". Probably just another side effect of positioning yourself as an internet behemoth. If a portion of statuses are searchable on Google, why not make messages public too?

This leads us to the question of the system, or code, of social networking sites. Should status updates become even more public, since they're similar to tweets? What is private on Facebook? Should the site be used strictly for the most rudimentary communications, and never for more personal messages?

Are you freaked out that you're being monitored not by an impartial third party, but your peers?
